Nalanda Dialogue Mission

Started nearly 20 years ago, the Nalanda Dialogue Mission exists to explore India's traditional knowledge systems — not as museum pieces, but as living bodies of thought still worth arguing with.

At its core, the mission brings scientists and philosophers into the same room, insisting that neither side treat the other as decoration. The dialogues are recorded, debated, and returned to, forming an evolving public record of what a genuine science-and-philosophy conversation in India can look like.

1. What integrates with Western science?

How much of traditional knowledge can genuinely integrate with the methods and findings of Western science — and where does that integration break down?

2. Preserve intact, or update?

Should traditions be preserved as they were transmitted, or is responsible updating — reinterpretation in light of new knowledge — part of keeping a tradition alive?

3. What is living, what is dead?

Of everything inherited from Indian knowledge systems, what is still doing intellectual work today, and what survives only as historical reference?
